CALCIUM AND WEIGHT LOSS
Can calcium help you lose weight? And if so, should it be calcium supplements, or calcium from food? (Hint: I don't go a day without calcium...)

DR. JOHN LOWE PUBLISHES CRITIQUE OF THE FOUR STUDIES COMPARING T4- AND T4/T3-REPLACEMENT: GET A COPY TO BRING TO YOUR DOCTOR
Dr. John C. Lowe, a long-time researcher into hypothyroidism, hypometabolism, fibromyalgia, and the use of T3 drugs for thyroid and metabolic conditions, has published a groundbreaking, MUST-READ analysis. He has looked at the four studies published recently in major medical journals, all of which were blanket criticisms of the use of T3. Dr. Lowe has deconstructed the research, and pointed out the numerous major flaws -- flaws that will force your physician to rethink the validity of the earlier findings. For any thyroid patient who doesn't feel well on T4 (levothyroxine, i.e., Synthroid) alone, I URGE you to print off the PDF version of the analysis report, and bring it to your physician. And if you have a doctor or endocrinologist who has dismissed T3 because of the recent research, then even MORE reason to make sure you share a copy of Dr. Lowe's paper, Thyroid Hormone Replacement Therapies: Ineffective and Harmful for Many Hypothyroid Patients. You can also read an html version online. Neither form of replacement therapy relieved hypothyroid patients' symptoms or abnormal test results. In fact, the four studies are proof positive that replacement therapies leave many hypothyroid patients suffering.

HAIR LOSS WORRIES WITH THYROID DISEASE
Many people notice rapid hair loss as a symptom of their hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. At one point, my own hair loss was so bad that if you made a ponytail, all of my hair together was the thickness of a pencil!! These days, as you can see from my picture on this page, I have my hair back!! Find out what things you can do -- and what I did -- to kick the hair loss problem!!

CONTRADICTORY CONSUMER EATING HABITS CHALLENGE FOOD INDUSTRY
While roughly 76 percent of consumers say they have healthy eating habits, 57 percent of respondents consider themselves to be overweight. This contradiction raises a host of issues for the food industry as it works to address public concerns about obesity, food safety, portion size and product ingredient.

NOTES FROM MARY:

drinkmix.jpg - 17095 Bytes30 pounds, and still heading downward! Some things that seem to be helping me keep to the program? Regular intake of calcium (see my new article on calcium). Also, I've been using a new protein shake (instead of a protein bar, or as a meal replacement some days, or some evenings when I'm really craving a snack) that is delicious, low-fat, low-carb, high-fiber, and really fills me up for several hours. Competitor's Edge brand "Low-Carb Weight Loss for Women" comes in individual serving envelopes, which you can hand mix or blend with water for a creamy chocolate shake. These are so easy to mix that you can even leave a few at your desk or in the car for an emergency meal. You can get it at health food and vitamin stores, or online. Click here to find out more about Competitor's Edge Low-Carb Weight Loss, or buy it online from Iherb.com.

I'm also very excited about the Fall launch of my new book, The Thyroid Diet. I can't believe that what started out as the 40-page guide is now a 400-page book, complete with food lists, ideas on herbs and supplements, and even a full section of recipes (I didn't create them, a professional food expert did, but I tasted them, and they're FANTASTIC!). I encourage you to pre-order your copy now so that you have one of the first copies hot off the press when it's published! Read the book's introduction, and the table of contents online now or pre-order your copy from Amazon.com.

Live well -- and LOSE well!!
