NOTES FROM MARY: THE HOLIDAY PARADE OF FOOD!

It's that time of year -- cookies, cakes, candies, potato pancakes, stuffing -- it's a parade of food! I'm determined to stay the course this season, and keep losing weight throughout the holidays. As you all know, like many people with hypothyroidism, I struggle to get off and keep off extra weight. So whenever I find something I feel is particularly helpful, I am very excited to let you know. I've tried things in the past, and had to let you know that it was a big bust. Like the "starch-blocker" pills (BUST), and at least for me, ephedra... (BIG BUST, PLUS PALPITATIONS!) But my ongoing efforts to continue to lose weight have been going particularly well lately, and I credit two things -- one, I've started doing more weight-bearing exercise, and I'll tell you more about that in an upcoming issue. But the other thing that is helping are some new supplements that I've started, and I love them. First, let me tell you that I have mitral valve prolapse. And so FORGET ephedra or some of the other stimulating supplements -- they give me major palpitations and I can't take them. but I've been taking a line of 4 products from "Lean for Less" (which are made by Health from The Sun, part of a very good company called Arkopharma), and they are really helping my weight loss stay on track, reducing my appetite, keeping me from being bloated, and I'm having faster weight loss results than usual!! Check it out. Between exercise, focusing on the protein instead of the carbs, and my supplements, I have faith that I'll have good news to report next issue!

Also, don't miss America's funniest thyroid patient, Jody LaFerriere, who has some questions for the big guy in red in her essay "Dear Santa: Are You Hypothyroid?" Is he hiding a goiter under that beard? Is his one-day-a-year job a sign that he's depressed. Only Jody knows for sure! http://thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/bldearsanta.htm

May you be surrounded by friends, family, and lots of love this holiday season.

Live well!
