Some patients' urticaria conditions respond to thyroid hormone replacement treatment. In other cases, antibiotic treatment has cleared up chronic urticaria. Hypothyroid Health Escape! Check in with Fiona's latest installment. Do You REALLY Need Iodine? You need the the proper amount of iodine for optimal thyroid function. A severe iodine deficiency can make you hypothyroid, cause developmental brain disorders and even severe goiter. Less severe iodine deficiency is linked to hypothyroidism, thyroid enlargement (goiter) and hyperthyroidism. At the other end of the spectrum, excessive iodine intake -- both severe and moderate -- can increase your risk of hypothyroidism and goiter.
