March 23 / New York Open Center

If you're in the New York, New Jersey or Connecticut area, I hope you'll join me for an upcoming Thyroid Seminar, scheduled for Friday March 23rd, at the New York Open Center.

The Open Center is the nation's leading holistic health center and there I'll be leading a seminar on my book, The Thyroid Hormone Breakthrough: Overcoming Sexual and Hormonal Problems at Every Age. We'll talk about holistic approaches to identifying, diagnosing and resolving thyroid-related hormonal problems including infertility, PMS, menopausal problems, low sex drive, and more. And we'll have a lively question and answer session as well, as I've done for previous Open Center Classes.

The class is Friday, March 23, at 7:15pm, Course #: 07WHH75P, Cost: Open Center Members $20 / Nonmembers $22 (includes handouts). Book your space now, before the class fills up!

Major Controversy: Thyroid Testing For Pregnant Women

Researchers are recruiting women for a new clinical trial looking at the value of treating an underactive thyroid during pregnancy.

But I have to ask why the trial is even necessary, when research already shows the dangers of failing to treat thyroid conditions in pregnancy. Find out more about the trial, and whether it's fair to women and their unborn children here...

And then take a look at these guidelines that will help all women deal with thyroid and hormonal conditions and have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Is Armour Thyroid Going Off The Market?

Since I became a thyroid patient advocate in 1996, a week doesn't go by that I don't receive a frantic email from a fellow thyroid patient asking whether Armour's going off the market. What's the story?

Be Careful Using Antithyroid Drugs When You're Having Radioactive Iodine

You'll want to be especially careful taking antithyroid drugs (i.e., Tapazole, methimazole, PTU) in the time frame around when you're having radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment. Researchers have just reported in the British Medical Journal that being treated with antithyroid medication is linked to an increased risk of failed radioiodine treatment treatment if the medications are given in the week before or after radioiodine treatment. Notes from Mary

Dear Readers,

Dear Readers, I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Ted Friedman. Dr. Friedman is not only one of the nation's leading endocrinologists, but he teaches at UCLA medical school, and so he is responsible for training the next generation of doctors. Now, you don't usually hear me going on about how wonderful an endocrinologist is, but Dr. Friedman truly is different. Despite being respected by the mainstream, he is willing to take chances, buck the system, and really listen to patients, and do things differently. Here is a doctor, himself hypothyroid, who is willing to work with T3 drugs and Armour thyroid, and is known as a diligent and sympathetic detective who tracks down and solves thyroid problems. That's why I'm so pleased that he decided to write a thyroid book, one I can highly recommend. If you're looking for a great overview book that covers the whole gamut of thyroid problems broadly, "The Everything Health Guide to Thyroid Disease," is a great addition to your bookshelf.

You can order it now from Amazon.com at a discounted price!

Live well,

Mary
