Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?
Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
* The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
* The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
* The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
* Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
* Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.

Altamonte Springs/Greater Orlando
Dr. Ivan R. Rosado, 661 E. Altomonte Drive, Altomonte Springs, Florida.
(407) 830-1677. A reader tells us, "Dr. Rosado does 5-6 thyroidectomies per week. He sat with hubby
and myself for an hour for the initial visit. He was very thorough in his explanations of all procedures,
risks, alternatives, etc. This included many visuals and written material we could take home and read.
The incision was a hair less than 2". He uses a retractor so it doesn't have to be a wide cut. I have seen
some people with 6-8" cuts after surgery. He told me to use vitamin E so the scar would be less
noticeable. We were given a thorough report of the procedure including the cold nodules, the cyst, and
the huge growth which were all removed. I was given all the information for my medical files without
having to plead for them. Within a few hours of the operation I could speak, had no problem with the
nerves, or parathyroid. This doctor radiates self confidence, yet is warm and patient oriented. A week
after the operation the stitches were removed by his just pulling two thin strings that were outside the
bandage. One little speck of blood on the cotton. No pain at all. The most thorough doctor I have ever
come across. You can just look at his hands and know he is an excellent surgeon. Top notch."
A reader writes:
"Dr. Rosado did a thyroidectomy on me in Sept. 2008. My initial office visit with him was extremely informative and after presenting all alternatives completely, allowed me to make my own decision. Surgery was successful and Dr. Rosado made the ordeal as comfortable as possible. He has a great bedside manner and my husband was very impressed with his knowledge and patience in communicating answers to every question. He is a competent and caring person and surgeon. We highly recommend him." (March 2009)

Kenneth N. Woliner, MD, ABFP, Holistic Family Practice, 2499 Glades
Road, #106A, Boca Raton, FL 33431. 561-620-7779.
Note: Dr. Woliner does not accept insurance. Be sure you understand the cost of an initial and followup visits at the time you make an appointment. If you are geographically located near him, he requires that you have your bloodwork done through and billed by his office, through the laboratory he prefers.
A reader describes Dr. Woliner, "Member of the
American Holistic Medical Association and the Institute of Functional Medicine. Also Board Certified
in Family Practice and has admitting privileges at Boca Raton Community Hospital. Provides 1 whole
hour with new patients (one hour with the doctor, not just one hour in the waiting room!)" (Updated
A reader writes:
"After four years of misdiagnosis by other doctors, I
went to Dr. Woliner after reading the Shames book. I suspected I had thyroid problems, but Dr. Woliner
quickly ascertained it was andropause. He prescribed a number of natural vitamins and supplement, to
help fight my symptoms and then prescribed male hormone therapy for the cause. His approach is smart
and his demeanor is warm. I drive for hours each way to see him, so you know that's an endorsement."
(Added: Dec. 04)
Note: This doctor took over patients for Dr. Richard Shames (who moved in late spring 2002 to
California. Dr. Shames recommends him personally, and said Dr. Woliner works with natural and
synthetic thyroid, and also has expertise in diabetes and weight management. (Updated
Another reader writes:
"Dr. Woliner subscribes to the head to toe school of medicine. He listens to patients and is not afraid of
requesting labs to rule out unusual problems. He is particularly thorough diagnosing complicated Thyroid
problems and was the only doctor of about 10 I saw that actually diagnosed me correctly. He is
respectful, pleasant and focused. It also appears he continues his study to stay on top of the most recent
medical info available. If you have trouble getting diagnosed, this doctor will go great lengths to find the
trouble." (Added 6/05)
A reader writes:
"He is extremely thorough and proactive with his patients. I like the fact that he is organized and
exceptionally intelligent. He straightened my thyroid issues out within a few months, something my
precious doctor couldn't do or even tried. I would recommend him in a heart beat and have to other
thyroid sufferers." (Added 1/06)
"I found Dr. Woliner via Mary Shomon's note that she'd met him during a seminar on
Dr. Teitelbaum's protocol. Thankfully, I was able to consult with him via phone consult as I live outside
of the US. I was looking for someone to aggressively treat my adrenal problems when thyroid therapy
alone worsened my Fibromyalgia. Dr. Woliner is very open minded about treating hormone imbalance
and believes in tackling the whole problem at once instead of just dealing with one problem at a time.
I am very indebted to him." (Added Apr 06)
A reader writes:
"Dr. Woliner has given me my life back ... once again! Initially I met Dr. Woliner thanks to Mary's books & her site sharing info on the book 'Thyroid Power' by Dr. Shames. I flew from NYC to FL in hopes of finally finding a Dr. who is an out of the box thinker and who also wouldn't force Synthroid or other forms of t-4 on me, (which my system seems to reject.) Both Dr.'s Shames (who was in the midst of moving when I had my first appt) & Woliner together concluded that I needed higher dose t-3 treatment. Which worked quite well and brought me back to health, until a I chose to attempt to find Dr.'s closer to home who unforuntately didn't understand my higher- dose t-3 need making me very ill, once again, with all hypo-symptoms & then some for many miserable months. So 3 months ago I sought help from Dr. Woliner (after 6 years) ...and in addition to putting me back on the higher dose t-3 to treat my thyroid hormone resistance, he has a found other hormonal issues that other Dr.'s with the same blood work on me, didn't acknowledge. These problems are now being corrected successfully thanks to Dr. Woliner's guidance in appropriate supplementation. I feel like 'me' again, can function, (even work crazy hours,) have my positive outlook back, and have lost much of the weight gained from improper treatment by other Dr.'s. Also Dr. Woliner's entire staff is terrific, all are extremely helpful. So, if you are in need of a Dr. who treats the body as a whole, & successfully treats your individual health issues ... on an individual basis ... Dr. Woliner is the Dr. for you. (He's well worth traveling to & also treats over the phone with your test results in hand). " (March 2009)

this year. 1st off - I myself am a medical professional so I scrutinize all my docs - for my standards are
probably much higher than some because I look at it all from the "other side". Dr. G did a great job
surgically on me - he will discusses all with you, his game plan to include follow up & Q & A session
- my scar was minimal - looks good w/my help also. Hopefully with the endocrine deity watching over
me I won't have the Lt side removed but if I do he's the man." (Added 11/02)

It is not cancerous, but he took the time to explain to me all my options and gave me enough information
to make an informed choice. The scar is minimal and if I ever needed any kind of surgery again, I would
choose him to do it." (Added 6/05)

In 1999, I was diagnosed hypothyroid, and put on Synthroid. The very first week was great, then the light went out. I was sent to Dr. Rasulo who did all the tests and recommended Armour Thyroid based on the fact that body didn't convert T4 to T3. Since then my PCP has stuck by that decision and I've been fantastic. I appreciate Dr. Rasulo's research and willingness to go with what the patient needs and not what's the most popular. Dr. Carol Roberts Holistic Doctor Brandon, Florida 813 661-3662. "Dr.
Roberts is a breath of fresh air! She listens to your concerns, thoroughly explains her treatment focus,
answers your questions, and treats you according to how "YOU" feel, not just how the numbers read.
She treats your whole body , not just the gland under your chin! Prior to meeting Dr. Roberts, I was the
typical thyroid patient who spent years going to endocrinologist who either over-billed my insurance
company for any test they could (but didn't treat my thyroid at all), told me surgery was the only option,
or they filled me up with Synthroid, Glucophage and diet pills! No one would listen to how "I" felt. They
just read the numbers on the lab work and declared me "healed." According to them, if I didn't feel well,
then obviously I needed an antidepressant! Dr. Roberts is simply a wonderful, caring human being. I've
recommended her to a couple of friends/associates and they, like me, are feeling better than they have
Carol Roberts, holistic MD Wellness Works Lakeside Drive Brandon, FL 33510 (813) 661-3662 A reader
writes, "Dr. Roberts will prescribe Armour without any hesitation. She’ll also offer a hair analysis and
blood allergy test and other holistic type treatments. She is not a specialist in thyroid disease, so you need
to judge how you feel yourself. Her prices seem to be about average."
"She treats your symptoms and does not watch the clock while she is talking to you. You will leave her
office feeling like you finally found the right doctor! I drive 120 miles to see her and I would drive
further. I want all my family and friends to go and see her!" (Added 6/02)
Another reader recommends Dr. Roberts:
"After searching one doctor after another to help me with a series of strange symptoms and debilitating
fatigue, Dr. Roberts was recommended to me. She saved my life. She immediately replaced Synthroid
with Armour and worked hard to regulate my thyroid. She is highly compassionate and knowledgeable.
Her belief is to "strengthen the body, focus the mind and lift the spirit." My commute which can
sometimes be over two hours is well worth it." (Added 11/02)
"I was diagnosed as hypothyroid in 2004 and
placed on Synthroid. I felt better quickly and dropped over 20lbs in weeks. After about two years, my
energy levels were decreasing and I eventually became depressed. I went from working out 6 days a week
to 3 as i didn't have the energy. Depression took over. I went to my doctor and weepily told her I was
depressed. She spent 5 whole minutes with me and blessed me as depressed. Off I went with no changes,
not even anti-depressants! That was the final straw. I found Dr. Roberts on this website and she was only
3 miles from my home! She spend an hour with me reviewing my history. Then she told me that on the
Armour, I would begin feeling better in about a week. I looked at her like she had three heads. I was so
used to feeling depressed that it sounded to good to be true. Well, she was right. I did feel a little better
in a week. After about six weeks on the Armour, I was back to normal. She also recommended vitamins.
I will never visit another "regular" physician again. Although I work in the medical field, my experience
has led me to become cynical with traditional medicine. I have told many hypothyroid friends about
Armour. Two of them went to their doctors who have never heard of Armour but prescribed it anyway.
They feel better too! The cost difference from Synthroid to Armour was a whooping 16 cents per month!
Life is good again thanks to Dr. Roberts." (July 2008)

is an associate of Dr. Carol Roberts at Wellness Works, whom I found
on your website. I was unable to get an appointment with Dr. Roberts
right away, but was told Dr. Bradshaw was just as good as Dr. Roberts.
On my first visit, Dr. Bradshaw IMMEDIATELY took me off of 4 meds that
my endocrinologist and my internist had me on, off. She put me on Armour
thyroid. This is the BEST I have felt in FIVE YEARS since being diagnosed
with thyroid cancer and hypothyroidism!!! I've been losing weight effortlessly,
have more energy, and people have noticed that I'm almost back to my
"old self" again. She's great!!!" (added 1/04)

Another reader writes:
"I found Dr. Erika Bradshaw listed here after many hours of
research. I KNEW I didn't feel right, yet my doctor insisted I was on the appropriate
dosage for my thyroid. If you have a thyroid condition, are taking meds and still don't feel well; you
came to the right place . Help is on the way! Make an appointment to see Dr. Erika Bradshaw at her
Brandon, Florida office, or at the Palm Harbor location where you will find her 2 days a week. No, you
are NOT supposed to feel as lousy as you do just because you have a thyroid condition. And you don't
have to either! You may say, "But I AM SEEING A DOCTOR! I was too, but I was not well. Listen to
your body. If you know in your heart you don't feel like you should even though you are taking your
meds, you may be on the wrong medication. You will feel like you are in the company of an old friend
with Dr. Bradshaw. She will LISTEN to YOU.... and not expect you to fall into a "cookie cutter" lab
range. I haven't felt this good in 9 years! I forgot what it was like to feel well. Dr. Bradshaw has
introduced me to my "old self", and it's wonderful. I will be eternally grateful to her. You can find the
"old you" again, like I have, when you let Dr. Bradshaw find the right "balance" for your body. Dr.
Erika Bradshaw will help you get there. " (Added: Dec. 04)
"Thanks to Mary Shomon's book living well with hypothyroidism. I found Dr. Bradshaw's name and I traveled 92 miles many times to see her, she saved my life after I moved to Fl. in 2000.I kept getting very ill. She and her office staff are very caring and I moved to N.W. Ga and away from her. I am hoping to find a clone of her,but there is just one of her." (October 2006).
"I went to Dr. Bradshaw in January, 2007 feeling very poorly for 5 years. After a very comprehensive discussion with Dr. Bradshaw she prescribed armour thyroid for me and took me off synthroid. What a blessing! After 3 months on armour I have lost 24 pounds and my swollen eyes, face and neck have returned to normal. She is absolutely my TOP DOC."(August 2007)
A reader writes:
"It has been life changing. She immediately noticed my thyroid, hormone levels out of whack-to which my previous dr said was nothing. Being placed on thyroid and hormone medication, I am a new person. Within 3 weeks on meds, everyone noticed a difference in me-mostly the weight loss. I have so much good energy, am focused and just feel so good. I look forward to my visits to the clinic! And the staff is fabulous! " (March 2009)

A reader writes: "Finally a doctor who listens and understand what
hormonal imbalances can affect not only your health buy your life. I visited so many doctors and took
so many unnecessary medications: antidepressants, diuretics, blood pressure and cholesterol drugs just
to name a few. Dr. De Jesus correctly diagnosed me with hypothyroidism and Progesterone/Estrogen
imbalance, I started Armour Thyroid and Bioidentical Hormones and I am a new woman in control of
my life." (Added 6/05)
Another reader recommends Dr. DeJesus:
"She listened to everything I said and told me that she could help and that she and her staff were not just
medical help, but friends. If you feel that something just isn’t right and everyone keeps telling you that
you’re fine, go see Dr. DeJesus and she’ll give you the truth." (Added 10/05)
"I have been seeing and diagnosed by Dr. DeJesus for about 4 years now. I have (since age 16) R/A, MVP, and severe hypoglycemia; now found to have pernicious anemia and severe hypothyroidism-possibly cancerous, along with very low progesterone. I'm now on bio-identical prog., and Armor thyr. med's. I also have a severely herniated c5/6 to be operated on in Dec..This woman IS AN ANGEL ON EARTH!! VERY COMPETENT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE (not to mention a holistic doc. first) I WOULD HIGHLY (and do) RECOMMEND HER AS A DOC. TO ANYONE!! There's not enough praise I could sing about her AND HER STAFF!!! I'm insured, BUT pay out of pocket for her-GLADLY I MIGHT ADD. If you pass this info along, only good would be the outcome. She really listens and cares about her patients' needs. This is rare and hard to come by. Not to mention, much appreciated! as well as NEEDED!! She and her staff do whatever necessary for the wellness of her patients. Her office offers massage, acupuncture, dermatology; along with preventive medicine, age management, hormone modulation and weight management. I'LL FOREVER SING HER PRAISES WITH THE UTMOST ADORATION AND APPRECIATION!!! SHE AND HER STAFF ARE THE EPITOME OF WHAT A DOCTOR/WELLNESS CENTER SHOULD BE!! (October 2006)
A reader writes: "For four years I went from doctor to doctor who tested for menopause, depression, bi-polar, PTSD, for months. In addition to wasting my time, they cost me thousands of dollars and prescribed nothing by antidepressants that caused more problems instead of helping. I finally decided to be responsible for my health instead of asking a doctor. I read Suzanne Somers book about aging and when she described perimenopause, I called Dr. De Jesus immediately. She had blood work done and from the panels was able to recite my list of symptoms without me ever opening my mouth. Her kindness, availability and staff make her all the more invaluable as a partner in my health. I highly recommend her as a GP, for thyroid treatment, for anti-aging support." (Added October 2007)

"This doctor has been vary patient with me and my difficult to diagnose thyroid condition. He started me on Armor at my request and when I thought I might also have adrenal issues, he prescribed HC until I was better. However, after coming off the HC (very low dose for only 2 months), the Armor was still not helping me. He suspected that I was producing RT3 instead of T3 so he switched me to Cytomel and I am finally getting better. He did not insist on Synthroid when I first went to see him like so many doctors do and he is always willing to listen to me and work with me. He is never condescending and he even tells me when I've taught him something new. While not a thyroid specialist, he does treat quite a few thyroid patients and in my opinion, he has more knowledge about thyroid issues than any endocrinologist." (May 2008)

Laurence Kennedy M. D. Endocrinologist University of Florida College
of Medicine Gainesville, Florida 32610-0226 He mentioned that Synthroid
had been the standard for a long time and there had been much about
it in the news recently but he did not put me down for having the info
from this newsletter and was more than willing to do a trial of adding
T3 to the T4 based upon my 20+ years of written history of thyroid diagnosis
treatment and problems. He would not go so far as to put me back on
Armour. But he acknowledged that nature had given us T3 and T4 for a
reason and we should not necessarily have to be stuck with just one.
I was given a trial of Thyrolar 2 for 60 days. Health and numbers improved
but still a little high in the T3. So now I am on generic T4 and Cytomel.
I was interested in the fact that he waited for 2 months to recheck
as previous physicians had only waited two weeks. And yes I got better
slowly. The other day I looked in the mirror and my eyes are no longer
sunken. He was very good at answering my questions and explaining his
reasoning to me. He is going to write to my Family Practice Doc and
explain to him the goals he has as far as my numbers and health are
Another reader recommends Dr. Kennedy:
"After years of being told that my thyroid levels were fine, I was fortunate
to schedule an appt. with Dr. Kennedy. He took the time to listen to
my symptoms without quickly brushing them off as "nerves" or other ailments.
He closely reviewed the checklist I had brought with me from this web
site, and asked me questions. Most importantly, he listened to me. He
was pleasant and informative re: thyroid disease, in spite of working
in a busy clinic environment. He increased the medication I have been
taking at the same dosage for 7 years. I am feeling so much better.
I am looking forward to my follow-up visit, as I trust that I am working
with a well-informed and patient doctor." (Added 6/03)

"I highly recommend my endo, Dr.Fernando Diaz. He is very dedicated
and thorough in his diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of his patients.
He listens carefully to what his patients have to say, and answers all
of our questions. While I cannot say with any certainty how specialized
he is with regard to Graves Disease, I do know that he treats a great
many thyroid patients in addition to diabetes patients, so I am sure
he has a good knowledge of Graves Disease. Dr. Diaz is a very good endocrinologist
in the South Florida area, who also happens to specialize in Internal
Medicine & Nuclear Medicine additionally. Here is his contact information/location:
Dr. Fernando Diaz, 3990 Sheridan Street, Suite 206, Hollywood, FL 33021,
"Dr. Fernando N. Diaz is one who takes the time to look at the whole picture to develop a treatment plan for each patient. In my humble opinion, the human body may be capable of reacting to a traumatic experience by developing disease. Dr.Diaz gets to know his patients, their experiences-both good and bad-and their concerns. He asks questions and calmly listens to his patients response. He then orders tests (blood-work, scans, etc..) to confirm his prognosis. Dr. Fernando Diaz is one who takes time and dedication with his patients. He truly enjoys his profession and finds fulfillment through the well-being of his patients. In today's medical world, physicians are highly controlled by the Health Insurance Industry and they are sometimes limited as to what they can and cannot prescribe/order/etc...to fill in the gap, many physicians find they can make more money by increasing the amount of patients they see per day; as a result patients spend more time in the waiting room than with the actual physician. With Dr.Fernando N. Diaz, however, the time you spend in the waiting room is well worth it. Once Dr.Diaz enters the patient room, he sits down and truly listens. He is calm and makes you feel as if you were the only patient in his office. He is in no hurry and makes you feel comfortable from day one. During my first visit, Dr. Diaz asked many questions and conducted a physical examination of my thyroid. His original prognosis was Hashimoto's Disease. This was later confirmed through the bloodwork he ordered. Since the disease is not in the advanced stages, Dr. Diaz ordered further bloodwork and a follow-up visit to continue monitoring this disease. He is very thorough and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Dr. Fernando N. Diaz to anyone seeking quality treatment." (August 2007)

Even when my test results wouldn't budge below 5, they wouldn't prescribe higher doses because I was "within range" and "too high a dose will cause osteoporosis later". Who cares when I can't get out of bed now?!
Dr. Dach was recommended by a friend and he's been a lifesaver. He spent over an hour with me on my first appointment (I have Hashimoto's) and switched me to a bio-identical (Nature-Thyroid) in addition to testing my vitamin D levels (I was severely deficient). Not only does he listen, he opened my eyes to a lot of issues that all of my other doctors never even mentioned.
I've been going to him for about a year now and the change has been nothing short of amazing - can get out of bed and be a functional human whose hair isn't falling out! He is kind and caring and highly informative.
I highly recommend Dr. Dach to anyone frustrated with their current treatment! He will make you feel well!" (August 2007)

"Dr. Miller is one of the most up to date physicians I have ever known.
I am a retired nurse and I have seen plenty of the good and the bad.
He is a good listener and will always allow your input on what you think
might help your condition. You work together as a team. My income is
small and he helps with my medications by giving me ample free samples
of whatever I am on. His office staff has never had a cross word nor

that are needed. I would give him an A+." (Added 6/02)

hyperthyroidism and told I needed to seen an endocrinologist. Doctor Magee came highly recommended
by not only other doctors, but people in Jacksonville who have diabetes, thyroid problems, and other
problems with the endocrine system. My first dealings were with his staff, and his staff is top notch. I
can't say enough good things. They were able to schedule a thyroid scan for me immediately and worked
hard to provide me with an appointment to see Doctor Magee right away. I asked to be put on a
cancellation list since I work only 5 mnutes from his office, and, to their credit, I was put on that list and
called in for an earlier appointment than originally scheduled. Doctor Magee was wonderful. He took
time to explain my thyroid scan results, my lab results, that I have Graves' Disease and what my
treatment options are. He spent an entire hour with me. He is not the type of doctor who says "this is
what we're going to do." It's a decision the patient and doctor makes together. I go back in 6 weeks to
discuss the options he gave me and formulate a game plan. I've never felt so comfortable with a doctor
or his staff." (Added 6/05)

"I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes in Aug 1995. I was being treated in a military hospital, of which I am very grateful. For personal reasons I no longer was able to receive care from the military. I began seeing a primary care physician. After approx six years of primary care for my IDDM, I was referred to an endocrinologist due to uncontrolled glucose, constant headaches, incredibly high hemoglobin results, failing vision, weight gain, etc. I was very disappointed with the lack of concern I received from the endocrinologist I was referred to. In May 2006 I was hospitalized for heart arrhythmia, 500+ glucose, and leg cramps. In the hospital I was treated by Dr. J. Sample MaGee as the attending physician and things have not been the same. My Hemoglobin results have decreased, my vision is better than ever, I no longer have the pain in my legs and most of all Dr. MaGee and the staff are wonderful. I know this sounds like a sales pitch, but I have nothing to gain, other than to vent my feelings about the great level of care, concern and attention I've received in the past three months. I thank God, I got sick that day, versus some other day, otherwise, I would have never been treated by or gotten a referral to Dr. MaGee. I would go to my boss's doctor appointments with him for support and noticed Dr. MaGee's genuine concern. I wanted that, and now I am more than grateful. All my meds were changed and I now look better and feel better than ever before." (October 2006).

I recently had a baby and had my gall bladder removed. Dr. Fernandez gave me progesterone shots to help me with the baby to carry to full term. I developed pre eclampsia at 38 weeks and tried natural birth but also developed low blood sugar. I had to have an emergency c section. I'm 41 years old, NEVER had problems with my blood pressure and I feel after reading Dr. Blanchard's book to ask for the TSH test. Mine came back "normal range" at 2.3. I discussed this book with Dr. Fernandez and he believes that sometimes people can display normal range but have symptoms of hypothyroidism. So he started me on 25 mg of Synthroid to see how it goes. I don't have insurance and he is saving me money by not sending me to a specialist. I am having problems regulating my low blood sugar. So I hope this works. I thank God for Dr. Fernandez. He helped me to carry my son full term and is working with me now and has been for several years. I hope he can help someone else. Dr Bernard started me on a natural thyroid supplement and 1 month later switched me to 60 mg of the dessicated thyroid. Wow, the weight loss and energy boost surprised me. I was also prescribed B12, DHEA, estrogen, progesterone & testosterone (all natural) as I am menopausal. Dr Bernard does follow my symptoms and is not only dictated only by the thyroid lab results. He continues lab testing and closely follows my results. Having Crohn's Disease from the age of 5 yrs old, other doctors have ignored my constant fatigue, hair loss, weight gain, etc. My husband is dying from leukemia and I could not handle the emotional, mental & physical stress if my accupuncture doctor had not recommended Dr Bernard. Dr. Lupo writes in to share: "My opinion is that I am a more open minded endocrinologist than the vast majority and that most of my patients and future patients will agree with this assessment...My approach combines the lab values, the patient's symptoms, and the clinical scenario (ie, other med problems and age). I have had some good success with T4/T3 combo therapy in this setting in many patients. But as you know, it's not for everyone. Hypothyroidism must be treated one patient at a time, there is no universal approach that works for every
one. Some are at high risk for complications if TSH is oversuppressed and it is my responsibility to steer them away from harm." (August 2007)

Enas Sallam, Internist, 5350 University Parkway, Suite 101, Sarasota, FL
Note: reportedly not accepting new patients, and focusing on pediatrics (May 2008)

not as an authoritarian." (Added Apr 06)
Allan L. Fedosky, Family Practice, Family Practice And Antiaging
Medicine, 4554 Hwy 20 E., Niceville, Fla 32578, 850-8971824 /8508971827
"He treats with Armour Thyroid." (Added 11/02)
Another reader adds:
"Dr. Fedosky is a very warm and caring doctor who takes the time you
need to explain your lab and diagnosis. After being sick for many years
I came away from his office feeling like I got a accurate diagnosis
and "a doctor who cared that I was sick". Dr. Fedosky is committed to
providing testing, education, and medication for Hypothyroidism. In
the Panhandle it is a rarity." (Added 6/03)
More praise from a reader for Dr. Fedosky:
"Dr. Fedosky really understands and explains thyroid disease. He understands
the T3 and T4 thing and explains it in simple English. I went to him
after my regular doctor tried to take me off Armour and put me on Synthroid."
Another reader writes:
"Dr. Fedosky is a kind, caring and compassionate Christian physician
who takes the time to listen to his patients and gets a complete medical
history before running any tests. After evaluating my lab results, he
took the time to educate my about my hyperthyroidism and explained all
treatment options thoroughly. He treats you with respect and he understands
thyroid issues because he is himself a lifelong thyroid patient who
has made thyroid diagnosis and treatment his life’s mission. Dr. Fedosky’s
treatment program has given me my life, my health, and my self-respect
back." (Added 4/04)
Maria Scunziano, Internal Medicine, 5350 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34606, 352-688-8116. A reader writes: "She listens to what you have to say, and is willing to make an effort to provide you with a meaningful diagnosis." (June 2006)
Another reader writes:
"She tried prescription meds which made me worse, so now I am on coconut oil and feel fantastic, like my old self. She is an Alternative doc and always listens to you and is not rushing you to leave." (Added Dec. 2006)
Robert A. Oesterle, Endocrinology, 300 Health Park Boulevard, Suite
#3008, St. Augustine, FL 32086, 904-810-2425, "Prescribes Armour and
treats the patient, not just a set of test numbers. Explains everything
in terms you can understand. The best doctor I have seen in over 5 years."
Another recommendation for Dr. Oesterle:
"This doctor spends time explaining and drawing diagrams that are easy
to understand about my test results, disease, and treatment. Treats
with Armour and synthetics. States that the thyroid is treatable and
the effects are reversible with proper treatment but it takes compliance
with treatment and time. My family is noticing a big difference in me
since starting treatment. Treats diseases of the thyroid, diabetes,
hormone replacement, obesity, and weight control." (Added 4/04)

Dr. Brickener, Bay Pines VA Medical Center, St. Petersburg Florida. A
reader writes: "I would like to add an EXCELLENT doctor to your file. I had been
trying for almost 30 years to receive several hormone tests, had had a
replacement dr. change my Armour t3-t4 to synthroid, and had hit a brick
wall. Because of other circumstances I enlisted treatment through the Bay
Pines VA Medical center in St. Petersburg Florida, and was referred to Dr.
Brickener, an Endocrinologist. He listened, tested me as I requested, placed
me on t3-t4 therapy and Testosterone injections. My symptoms were markedly
reduced, my Fibromyalgia pain reduced from a level seven to a level two, and
my strength and endurance increased. Dr. Brickener was a literal lifesaver
and Godsend!" (Added: Dec. 04)

find Dr. Ahner and now feel much better using Armour." (Added 4/04)

Susan Odell, PA, 8399 W. Oakland Park Blvd, Sunrise, FL, 33351, 954-741-4181. A reader writes: "I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Autoimmune after 2 years of trying to get my primary care physician to run antiglobulin tests which turned out to be very high. I was referred to Dr. Odell with my two page list of symptoms in hand and my own extensive research on the subject. I was placed on thyroxine. I was a bit wary of this medication after reading all the holistic books, including those by Mary Shomon which are my favorite but decided to give it a try. Eight weeks later my symptoms were worse and I returned to Susan very upset. She was very understanding and told me that we would do whatever it took to make me feel better. I was placed on Armour 4 weeks ago and feel markedly better. I credit Susan for being a kind, concerned, caring person which in turn makes her a wonderful physician. I feel I am well on my way to managing this disease."(August 2007)

Dr. Sylvia Campbell, Surgeon. 217 S. Nantanzas Ave, Tampa, FL 33609,
813-875-2655. A reader shares, "Dr. Campbell is incredible. I am a nurse
and I first had contact with her speaking at a conference I was attending.
I thought to myself if I ever need a surgeon she would be it. I had
heard through the grapevine later on how good she was in several specific
situations. Also all my coworkers think she is great. When I knew that
I needed thyroid surgery I asked my friend the pathologist whom he would
recommend and she was on his list of high favorites. Also my endocrinologist
recommended her. Her office looks like a home and there is beauty all
around you when you are there. The staff are really nice and helpful.
Dr. Sylvia is so thorough and always remembers that you are the patient.
She explains the surgery well and has you make a list of questions right
up to surgery. She will phone you at home the night before surgery and
ask if you have any more questions. She was right beside me preop supporting
me. After surgery when I had problems with my bandage (not her fault)
and she had to be called in the night, she was very kind to the nurse
who took care of me. After surgery she was looking out for my emotional
health with the cancer diagnosis and making sure that I had a support
system in place. The physical scar is looking great with no problems
after surgery. She gave me lots of tips on how to make the scar fade
Another reader writes:
"I first met Dr. Campbell in 1987 when I worked in the ICU. She had been in surgery for 8 hours with
her patient but still insisted on sitting with the patient to make sure she was settled and okay. She always
puts her patients first. She does a great deal of volunteer work and has even made trips to Haiti to help
the people there. In Tampa, Sylvia Campbell is our one true Angel." (Added 6/05)

Dr. Brandford Carter, Surgeon, Moffitt Cancer Center, Moffitt Clinic Building (MCB), 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL, 33612, 813-745-4673
A reader writes:
"Dr. Bradford Carter is an unbelievably talented, caring surgeon! I had a total thyroidectomy, and came through with little pain, and my voice intact. The Moffitt hospital was very comfortable, too. I am so glad I sought a 2nd opinion there - which quickly became evident that they would be my first and best choice." (March 2009)
Jeffrey Miller, Rheumatology, 3218 West Azeele, Tampa, FL 813-876-7523,
"He spent 2 ½ hours with me the first time I saw him, taking a complete
medical history, asking questions, and checking me. He was willing to
follow my intuition that I needed to try something different than T4.
He put me on Armour and I felt much better, but I told him I might need
a different dosage. He then prescribed several different dosages and
allowed my to try each one, reminding me to stay on the same dosage
for at least 6 weeks. When I had a problem recently on a totally different
matter, his office staff managed to work me into his schedule so I didn’t
need to go to the emergency room. He’s been great." (Added 4/04)
Steven Schweinshaupt MD, Primary Care, Gunn Highway, Tampa, FL,
813-969-2030. A reader writes: He listened to me and my concerns. I was being treated on T4 only
(Synthroid) and my labs were close to normal, although I was feeling awful with an array of symptoms.
My endocrinologist would not even listen to my requests to try another drug and chastised me for trying
to play doctor. Dr, Schweinshaupt listened, ran additional tests and is now giving me a trial on Armour
Natural Thyroid. He did not have the typical "just because I graduated med school I know all" attitude.
I think he is a great caring doctor and would recommend him to anyone." (Added 6/05)

"My husband is an MD board-certified neurologist who was the only person that diagnosed my hypothyroidism while other Drs thought I suffered from depression and almost killed me from side effects of different antidepressants. He treat all his hypothyroid patients with Armour thyroid with great results."(August 2007)

Dr. Freddy Avni, General practice/internist/primary care, Other,1395 S State Road 7 Ste 420, Wellington, FL 33414
A reader writes:
"I have the need to explain to you what kind of Hero Dr. Avni has become to me. I have gone through a lot, and felt lost for some time now. It seems that I've been living with this since childhood (I am now 24). Only now, when I finally have my own child did I discover the severity of this illness. Among the many things, I have suffered from "kidney stones," I went through a difficult labor that ended up with a caesarean wound that needed to be packed everyday for about a month and a half; I have suffered with exhaustion that was thought to be a result of caring for a newborn. I went to doctors that heard me but did not listen, and said I am depressed when the only thing I wanted to do more than anything in the world is take care of my own son, raise him so that he could feel his mother beside him, be a wife to my husband, a good sister and daughter, and to say it simply, just have control over my life so that I could once again breathe normally. All I wanted was health, and, in turn, I'd be able to achieve happiness.
I finally went to Dr. Avni yesterday. He didn't conclude anything right away, and listened to me while
patients waited for about a half an hour. He gave me hope, hope to live once again (that's how terrible
I've been feeling). I've seen maybe 4 doctors that each told me something else, some in the emergency
room, some that are primary doctors. I've spoken to people around me that just never understood-
everyone didn't want to believe it, but believed that it was postpartum.
I am writing to you, to indirectly thank Dr. Avni for listening. For not concluding things right away. For hearing me when no one did. He is a remarkable doctor and I am proud to know him and to say that he is my doctor." (July 2008)
