NEW YORK:
THYROID TOP DOCTORS DIRECTORY

The following listing includes recommended doctors and practitioners for your thyroid care. Please note that being listed here in the Thyroid Top Doctors Directory doesn't necessarily mean a doctor is the right one for you. The doctor may be an empathetic and warm physician, but not open to working with drugs like Armour or T3 drugs. The doctor may be brilliant and innovative, but have a terrible bedside manner. Or the doctor may be quite costly and not on insurance programs. Always call the doctor's office ahead of time to find out more about the doctor's philosophy, approach, costs, and other important factors before going in for your first appointment. Please let me know if you have feedback -- positive or negative -- about doctors listed here, or would like to recommend your "top" doctor.

Thanks! -- Mary
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DOCTOR!

Become part of the movement for better care! Help keep great doctors in business and encourage more doctors to properly treat thyroid patients by recommending the smart, caring, innovative practitioner who treats your thyroid condition. We might include him or her on the Top Docs Directory! And if you have criticism or feedback about a listed doctor, please let us know now!

Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?

Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
* The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
* The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
* The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
* Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
* Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.

Samer El-Deiry Endocrinology The Endocrine Group 1365 Washington Ave., Suite 300, Albany, NY 12206 518-489-4704 www.theendocrinegroup.com A reader writes: "Dr. El-Deiry was able to adjust my thyroid levels to make me feel better than I did before Radioactive iodine RX. My 2nd endo. MD recommended iodine Rx for Graves hyperthyroidism. My TSH jumped to 38 in a few weeks. He was able to get my TSH in "normal range" but I never felt good. My primary care Nurse Practitioner recommended Dr. El-Deiry and his group (The Endocrine Group). I am now taking a T4/T3 combination and feel great! I can't thank Dr. El-Deiry enough!!!

A reader writes:
"Dr. ElDeiry came highly recommended and after visiting him I was very impressed by his knowledge and the way he really listens to his patients. I can tell he really cares. He is very thorough and offers his email to patients if they need to contact him. He is willing to try alternative approaches and treats his patients as individuals. All tests and bloodwork are done onsite which makes it very convenient!" (October 2006)

He has an excellent referral network and the other specialists to whom he has referred me have all been eminently satisfactory. He returns calls. He is a Red Sox fan who is sympathetic to my predilection for the Chicago Cubs! I trust that he respects my rights and wishes as a medical consumer, that he will give me the best available information, then let me make the choices."

Dr. John Leone, Family Practice 61 Maple Rd Amherst, NY, 14221, 716-565-1234. A reader writes: "Dr. Leone is a five star doctor. He is so good that I'm afraid if I tell everyone that his office will get too busy. I was able to change from Synthroid to Armour thyroid without any fuss. He listens and understands that one medicine is not for everyone and that everyone is an individual! Let me say as forthyroid, someone dear to him has a thyroid problem so he does understand. He conveys to me that the group of doctors he is associated with are switching their thyroid patients to Armour Thyroid if Synthroid is not doing the job." (Added 4/03)

Another reader writes:
"I agree that Dr. Leone is top-notch! He was willing to switch me from Synthroid to Armour Thyroid. He didn't have a problem with it at all, felt that I could benefit from it, and if that was what I wanted, he would prescribe the Armour. I feel so much more like my old self that it is unbelievable. Dr. Leone is very easy to talk with about concerns and treatment. The best part is, he was already my Primary Doctor and I found out thru this site that he was a recommended Doctor for Thryoid!!!!" (Added 6/05)

Amherst

Patricia Lisoto Endocrinology 1000 Youngs Road Second Floor Amherst, NY 14221 716-798-1947 A reader writes: "She works with Dr. Karen Giardino and I love her. Shahid Haque, Endocrinology, 4247 Maple Rd., NY 14226, 716-835-9871. A reader writes: "Dr. Haque is a board-certified endocrinologist and is the 4th endo I have seen in the Buffalo, NY area. I have been under his care for 3 yrs. after my last endo overmedicated me and I suffered hyper symptoms along with chest pains and thought I was going to have a cardiac event! Dr. Haque does not rush you out of his office and listens to your concerns and addresses them and explains in detail. My TSH fluctuates several times per year and he suggested that I try alternating 2 different dose which seems to be working for the past 6 mos. so far! If I call him because I feel like something is wrong, he will order a blood test and believes me.... He always gives me a complete physical exam annually and orders complete blood work and addresses all issues. His staff is very competent and friendly and the office is very clean." (Added 6/05)

A reader writes:
"I have been seeing Dr. Haque for over 4 yrs. now and can't express enough that the title"Top Doc" fits him perfectly! I am very critical of doctors and it took me 11 yrs. to finally find THE BEST endocrinologist in the area. Friends & family that have switched to Dr. Haque have thanked me because he has taken excellent care of them from thyroid issues to diabetes. Every visit entails a complete examination and he treats your body as a whole; not just that little butterfly-shaped organ in your neck. He is more concerned with how YOU feel and that the lab values ranges are only a guideline. He LISTENS to you. Dr. Haque is a KEEPER! I just wish he was a primary care provider. :-)" (March 2009)

It is worth the wait to get in to see him! To ensure that the proper dosage of medication is given he reviews does blood work every six weeks and reviews my dosage until he feels I have reached the right level. Another reader writes:
"This Dr. David Cohen is something else. His body scan reading was eerily accurate about medical problems I USED to have as well as the two I still have. About two hours after his homeopathic remedy, I felt enormous relief from my arthritis pain. I really have to say he gave me more relief than any five doctors added up together. Very recommendable fellow. Such relief!"

Another reader recommends Dr. David Cohen:
"My neighbor, about 75 yrs young, went to Dr. Cohen after she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. Not wanting all the heavy-duty meds which weren't working, she followed Dr. Cohen's recommendations, using only naturopathic remedies, and the improvement was so much better than anything the pharmaceuticals could do that her medical doctor cut her thyroid med in half. He's becoming a legend in Brooklyn for really tough cases. I'm quite impressed." (Added 11/02)

More praise from a reader for Dr. Cohen:
"Five doctors in a row, including two who are renowned and very expensive, could not put a label on my numerous symptoms. Within an hour or so of Dr. Cohen doing a body scan, the remedies he suggested starting working. Can you imagine waiting sixteen months to get relief, and one naturopath gives you a detailed report about why your body's having so many problems, and BOOM! Relief in a couple of hours. I can't recommend him enough. What a wizard." (added 1/04)

Another reader writes:
"Dr. Romero was a Godsend to me....I was experiencing all the typical symptoms of thyroid disease and sought out a top doc because my endo refuse d to deal with anything other than my TSH level...I got very depressed and frustrated as my symptoms were clearly related to my Hashimoto’s disease, yet they would not treat me beyond a certain point...(fear of lawsuits??) I sought and got relief from my symptoms as Dr. Romero listened to my sobs and saw my despair. There is hope, and he encourages you to find it. I am on Armour now and feeling better than I have in over one year...I no longer feel the despair of, is this how my life is going to be? Another fan of Dr. Romero:
"Dr. Romero has done more for me than my endocrinologist. He listens to the person with compassion, develops a total wellness plan including diet, nutrition, exercise, and medication/herbs. I highly recommend him to anyone who is not satisfied with their doctor." (Added 10/05)

Marie C. Gelato, MD, PhD, Endocrinologist, University Hosptial at Stony Brook, State University of Stony Brook, 26 Research Way, East Setauket, NY 11733, 516 444-0580. A reader writes: "Dr. Gelato is a caring, listening, open minded doctor. When I complained about how I felt on Synthroid, she listened, tried other dosages, and listened some more. I don't feel right on Synthroid. I learned about Armour Thyroid. She was open to trying it. I've been on Armour now for almost 2 years. I feel much better. Need I say more? She is definitely a top doc!"

Another reader writes:
"Dr Gelato was the THIRD endocrinologist I had been to and I was not really optimistic since the others had not really heard my complaints about how I was feeling. Well, I was so pleasantly surprised! Not only did she listen to my issues, she took my symptoms as well as my "numbers" into consideration and tried me on Unithroid. To my surprise, within three weeks I felt like a new person! I can't believe there are still doctors who think that a set of lab values tells the whole story! Dr. Gelato was willing to see if a different medicine worked for me and how my body would process the medication. She took my individual symptoms into account and since she treated me as a "whole person" and not just labwork, she gets my vote as a Top Doc!" (Added Apr 06)

No other doctor caught the fact that I was sensitive to t3 t4 and trh. He's truly in this business to help people, not money hungry at all. He spends at least an hour each time I see him. Sometimes I spend $140 sometimes less, sometimes more depending on how many allergens I buy. He's treated my insomnia, cravings and constipation like no one else has. He uses something called immunology which is explained on http://www.allergychoices.com/allergies_oral_faq.asp. He treated all bacteria, fungi, food, vitamins, environment allergies and hormone imbalances etc. Please recommend this very innovative dr. He has a superb reputation." (Added 2/03)

Huntington

Dr. William Romero Huntington Atrium, 775 Park Avenue Suite 155, Huntington NY 11743, 631-549-4500, www.bariatricdoctor.com I highly recommend Dr. William Romero. In the past I had been put on Synthroid but had become symptomatic (gaining weight without any lifestyle/eating changes, sleeping 10-14 hours a day and still feeling exhausted, falling and tripping so much that moving around was almost a safety hazard . . . etc). After spending an hour with Dr. Romero on my first visit, I felt like I had a new lease on life with him as my cheering section. He also prescribed a combination of Armour and Synthroid and a well balanced diet and exercise program (it's a lifestyle change, folks!) . . . that was 3 weeks ago. I just returned from a 2 week European vacation (historically, I gain about 1 pound per day when I go on vacation despite exercising, watching my diet and exploring the sights). When I weighed in at Dr. Romero's office, I did not gain 14 pounds, but instead maintained my weight like a normal, active person! In Europe, I was also able to explore the sights (including climbing up to the Acropolis, walking up and down stairs in Venice, and navigating over many cobblestone walkways) WITH ENERGY AND WITHOUT TRIPPING! I am now able to sleep a solid 8 hours and wake up feeling refreshed!! My thinking is clearer and I am not as forgetful and I used to be. If you live in the LI area and are tired of doctors who tell you that you overeat, overwork, don't exercise enough or everything is in your head, you must make an appointment with Dr. Romero. After 28 years, I feel reborn!

Another fan:
"He is caring, he listens, he works with you, and he adjusts your treatment when required." (Added Dec. 04)

From Dr.Romero:
The doctor writes about himself: "Dr. Romero is a doctor that listens to the patient well. He believes in treating the patient and not laboratory numbers. He has helped many patients who have been ignored by others. He has successfully treated patients clinical hypothyroidism "normal" TSH PCOS hypometabolic syndromes insulin resistance, Syndrome X etc."

She takes the time to explain everything and will never let you leave unless you understand what she wants to do. She is very devoted to caring for her patients and not anyone is a number or an insurance co-payment. She is more interested in you than making money. Dr. Gerald W. Cahill, General Practice, 16 Fourth St. Malone, NY 12953 518 483-8990. A reader shares, "I was on Armour thyroid since having RAI therapy in 1975 through an endocrinologist in Buffalo, New York. I relocated to Malone and upon Dr. Cahill’s suggestion discontinued that and tried Synthroid and all of its derivatives. I was miserable. Dr. Cahill wasn’t sold on Armour but allowed me to go back on it and since then has increased it to more than I was getting because I am on Premarin and am post menopausal. It is wonderful that I have a doctor that will listen to me and know that lab results are not the only criteria for prescribing medications. He genuinely cares for each individual patient and listens to women."

Listened to my symptoms too, not just the lab results! Very nice and understanding! Great Doctor!"

A reader writes:
"Dr. Ilyayeva is caring, warm, patient, always willing to listen, knowledgeable, informative. She calls me at night for all my lab tests results and makes copies for me to keep. Middletown

Dr. Laurence Gordon, ENT Surgeon, 674 East Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940, 845-343-0666. A reader writes: "He performed a complete thyroidectomy on me due to a suspected cancer. Biopsies were not clear about the cancer until after the surgery. He listed to my thoughts and feelings about the partial versus total thyroidectomy and followed my wished to have it completely removed when the biopsy during surgery was unclear. A bonus that I later found out is that he is trained in cosmetic surgery as well. My scar looks beautiful and blends in more every day. He has been following my thyroid levels for more than a year now because my energy levels have not responded in spite of normal or even below normal TSH tests. He is very patient and willing to tweak the meds until we get it right. He is very kind, compassionate, open to the patient's perspective, and completely worth the 1 hour drive I make to see him every 6 weeks. He is committed to get me feeling my best." (June 2006)

She spent over an hour on my first visit getting to know "me", my feelings, my concerns, my history. That to me makes the "Best Doctor In The World". Through my travels, I tell people about her, to go seek her professional advice and guidance. She placed me on Levoxyl a year ago and together we are battling my Hashimoto's and winning! A reader writes: "Dr. Heller has been such a fantastic doctor and a wonderful supporter. He listened patiently, dispenses advice and always takes the time to explain everything thoroughly. He is skilled surgeon who performed my total thyroidectomy 8/00 with no ablation therapy needed. At the time I did not have a reliable endocrinologist and he was able to steer my in the right medical direction not just as a surgeon. He specializes in thyroid disease and treats you like a human being at each and every visit. I have never felt like a number in his office. He was referred by a friend who is a surgeon, and I am so glad that I have found him to treat my disease. He has a positive and upbeat attitude which makes you feel like you can survive anything. I highly recommend him as a top surgeon in NY." (Added 2/03)
"Dr. Heller is one of the most patient, knowledgeable, and trustworthy doctors in this field. He listened to me, and discussed all aspects of the diagnosis, treatment and eventually surgery with me. New Hyde Park

Dr. Harvey Katzeff Endocrinology Long Island Jewish Medical Center 400 Lakeville Rd New Hyde Park, NY 516-465-5460 A reader writes: "I was diagnosed with Graves' disease under the care of another endocrinologist who didn't do very well with my case. I was over-medicated which resulted a weight gain of 18lbs within 2 weeks and couldn't seem to reasonably manage my weight. Once recommended to Dr. Katzeff, my meds were adjusted properly and a battery of tests was performed to find out more specifically what I was up against. The first MD just took basic blood work and prescribed meds. After the new endo ran the tests, it was discovered that prescribing meds would not solve my problem. Apparently the Graves' was a little more sensitive than your classic case. Dr. Katzeff worked feverishly to get me better and was constantly doing research regarding my situation. He was always available for any questions I had and always treated me in the utmost professional and caring manner. When it was finally decided to have a total thyroidectomy (rare for my circumstances) I was put in the hands of one of the very best surgeons who also took a lot of care with my case. My case has been documented in medical journals due to unusual circumstances associated with my Graves disease. Dr. Katzeff does not believe in alternative meds nor will he treat the depression/ADHD symptoms with MAOI's, Valium, etc. He treats the physical condition at hand. I have spoken with many thyroid patients that have been described with the aforementioned drugs. I cannot say enough kind things about Dr. Katzeff, his knowledge and persistence has given me my life back...I am happy to share with you that after overcoming this battle, I have gotten married and am now expecting my first child. I would not have been able to accomplish either one with ongoing Graves' disease." (Added 11/02)

I highly recommend him!" (Added Dec. 04)

A patient writes:
"I'd highly recommend Dr. David Myssiorek who is an ENT, Head and Neck surgeon. Dr. Myssiorek was straightforward with us in regards to my enlarged thyroid. He took the time to thoroughly explain all that could be involved in such a surgery. We discussed the pros and cons (as it related to my case) of the surgery itself, the procedure, and possible side effects. He strongly encouraged us to call him back with any questions or concerns. Shortly before going into the OR, Dr. Myssiorek came by and spoke to me, making sure that I was 'really ready' for the surgery. I was pleased with the small scar, one that was barely noticeable. Dr. Myssiorek is an exceptional doctor. Not only is he a skilled surgeon, but he is also a caring doctor, one who is genuinely concerned with the feelings of his patients. Dr. Myssiorek is the kind of doc you feel comfortable talking to because he's truly a 'nice' guy. An accomplished head and neck surgeon, a compassionate doctor with an excellent bedside manner who happens to possess a great sense of humor... That's Dr. David Myssiorek and again, I highly recommend him." (Added: Dec. 04)

He is a wonderful doctor, a skilled surgeon but a true professional. He listens, he cares and answers all questions until you are satisfied. I highly recommend Dr Myssiorek to anyone seeking out a thyroid surgeon." (Added Apr 06)

As soon as we set foot in Dr. Myssiorek's office we felt as ease and he was so kind, caring and understanding of our situation. He was amazing at answering all of our questions with great detail. My surgery was successful and though I have a long way to go in my treatment, with the help of Dr. Myssiorek we have crossed a great hurdle. I would recommend him to anyone who needs surgery." A reader writes: "I began treatment with Dr. Borenstein almost four years ago. At the time I was wiped out tired, overweight, had dry skin and other symptoms. I had been to other doctors who failed to diagnose my problem. Dr.Borenstein realized right away I had a thyroid-related condition and put me on treatment. I felt better right away and am still happily under his care. Dr. B is caring compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him to anyone..."(August 2007)

Another reader writes:
"I have been treated by Dr. Borenstein for the past 6 months for my Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. When I told him my symptoms he immediately knew what to do.He took his time to explain everything. He ordered blood tests and found my thyroid to be low. He started me on Armor thyroid and also treated my low adrenals, yeast, low vitamin b-12 and my sleep issues. I must say I have improved considerably. I would highly recommend Dr. Borenstein and his staff. He also takes most major insurance."

Another reader:
"I have been to a few different doctors re my thyroid. I went to see Dr. B today and he was wonderful! He knew right away what to do. He is treating me for my yeast issues, switched my meds to Armor thyroid and testing vitamin and hormone deficiencies that no other dr would do for me. AND, I didn't' have to ask! He was SO nice and such a gentleman. The staff is pleasant as well. I HIGHLY recommend him."

More praise:
"I first went to see Dr Borenstein because I was doing everything to try and lose weight but it just wasn't working. I was eating well, exercising, and getting lots of sleep. After only a few minutes of speaking with him, based on my answers to a few questions, he immediately suspected a thyroid issue and a yeast problem. He put me on armor thyroid as well as medication to get rid of the yeast that had accumulated in my body. After only a couple weeks I already started to see a difference. I started to lose weight at a steady pace and my energy levels went through the roof. I am still losing weight and feel healthier than ever. I highly recommend Dr. Borenstein and his staff. Their office has recently moved to a new location at The office is beautiful and has a great environment as well as very helpful and friendly staff. I encourage anyone with a similar problem such as mine to visit Dr Borenstein for a consultation. I am so grateful for how he has changed my life!"

The New York Thyroid Center at Columbia Presbyterian and their staff take an innovative and individual approach to thyroid surgery. Dr. Inabnet performed a left lobectomy (to remove a thyroid nodule) rather than removing the entire thyroid. Even though the nodule was malignant, in my case, because the cancer was well contained, our joint decision was to leave the remainder of my thyroid intact. I was spared having to undergo radioactive iodine treatment but will have to have periodic sonograms and bloodwork to monitor potential return of the cancer. As a vocalist, naturally concerned about the voice more than anything else, I experienced "the great miracle" :-)... Dr. Daniel B. Kuriloff is outstandingly good of what he is destined to do. He has a curiosity and a willingness to go above and beyond any new areas. Surpassing a professionalism by a collaborative approach to care, Dr. Kuriloff listens intently and cares deeply about his patients. I highly recommend him to anyone who is searching for a skilled and experienced Head and Neck Surgeon and who needs a knowledgeable otolaryngologist. The brilliant and creative Healer!!!" (August 2007)

A reader writes:
"Dr. Kuriloff is a consummate and caring doctor, with extensive knowledge and in-depth experience in effectively treating thyroid cancer. He treated me for papillary cancer with a total thyroidectomy and removal of my lymph nodes. Throughout the process, from ultrasound biopsies that he performed in his office (including taking the time to explain and show me the pictures from the ultrasound results), to the cat scan, to the surgery, to the radioactive iodine treatment and to now taking synthroid, Dr. Kuriloff has taken the time to discuss and answer questions every step of the way. He returns calls, doesn't rush, and answers questions. He also referred me to websites and provided me with a primer on thyroid disease on my first visit. In fact, I originally went to him for a second opinion regarding my diagnosis and then switched to him as my surgeon. He has performed more than 1,200 thyroid-related surgeries. In addition, because I have to give presentations for my work, I was very concerned about the potential affect the surgery could have on my vocal chords, since the thyroid rests in proximity. Once I learned that Dr. Kuriloff is sought out by singers and public speakers because of his precision, I was very reassured and had no problems with hoarseness after the surgery. Pomona

Dr. Don Zwickler, Endocrinologist, 5 Medical Park Drive. Pomona, New York 10970. phone: 845-362-3111. A reader testifies, "I was diagnosed as hypothyroid by a general MD in 1994 with a TSH of 38. I really didn't have any problems that I knew of - a bit tired maybe - but the doctor assured me that taking Synthroid would improve my life. After 3 to 4 years of seeing several different doctors - and increasing my Synthroid to INSANELY high levels (because my TSH wasn't responding) I was gaining weight, extremely depressed and thinking that I was insane. Now I had problems. I found Dr. Zwickler who began to give me Cytomel - because he listened to how I was feeling and judged his decision on how my body was reacting and appearing - not just on what the blood tests read. After a few months, under careful attention and dosage adjustments, I felt better than I ever had - lost weight - was spunky and NO LONGER DEPRESSED. Then I made a big mistake, I moved and tried a new doctor for convenience. He convinced me that the Synthroid was never to blame, put me back on it, and when I sunk back into depression, suggested Zoloft. 3 months and 20 lbs gained - distraught - I called upon Dr. Zwickler who was SO SUPPORTIVE. I was embarrassed because I left and went to someone new - but he helped me with no attitude and returned every one of my frantic phone calls. Now - after seeing him again for a few months, my moods are back to my normal happy self, my weight stabilized and I am starting to lose. I feel GREAT. He is truly a kind, intelligent, and wonderful doctor and I think that he is THE best out there. I drive over an hour each way to see him and I encourage everyone to help themselves and talk to him if you are having problems."

Another reader writes:
"I have been a patient of Dr. Zwickler's for many years. He has always been a caring, compassionate physician. He is also a practical physician who will not subscribe medication for every ailment. Instead, he suggests non-medical means for health benefits, especially diet and exercise. He is always approachable and accessible and returns phone calls promptly. Although I have moved away from New York, I still go out of my way to maintain Dr. Zwickler as my caregiver."

Another reader also recommends Dr. Zwickler:
"I was diagnosed as hypothyroid with a TSH of 38 by a different doctor at 23 years old I'm 28 now - over the next three or four years I saw several endocrinologists who kept increasing my Synthroid levels until I was taking an extremely high dosage enough for a 300 lb. person - I was only 130 with no results except depression - severe depression and low T3 levels. I found Dr. Zwickler who listened to HOW I felt and added Cytomel - I improved instantly. He worked so carefully with me over the next year to get my meds regulated my weight down and me feeling GREAT Then I moved - I went to a new doctor for convenience." (Added 2/03)

More praise from a reader for Dr. Zwickler:
"Dr. Zwickler is the most caring doctor that I have ever seen. He takes such time and listens so intently and he truly helps you feel better. Sometimes, I had to stop seeing him regularly because of my health insurance, only to become ill again. It had been over a year since I had seen Dr. Zwickler and I was so tired, gaining weight and not happy. After listening to me so carefully, he put me on Cytomel (besides the Synthroid) and I felt so much better. My internist just kept saying that my thyroid results were normal. I knew I had to go back to Dr. Zwickler, and now I pay a lot each time because my insurance isn't accepted by his office, but I am happy to pay, because I know that I am getting the most caring, top-rated care in the world. He is so kind. This is truly a doctor who wants and loves to help people. He always returns calls promptly and he in fact encourages you to call to let him know how you are feeling." (added 1/04)

A reader writes:
"I would like to add my thoughts for the Top Thyroid Doctor Website for Dr. Mary Wise in Rochester, NY- I highly recommend Dr. Mary Wise for patients who are struggling with their thyroid disease. I have been going to Dr. Wise since December 2006 and I am getting better all the time. She listens to her patients, shares results, and let's you actively participate in your healthcare plan making it a complete partnership. Dr. Wise does prescribe Armor Thyroid to patients and does not just use lab numbers as the whole end all in your treatment but in conjunction with how you feel too. I love going to her and I cannot say enough good things about her. She doesn't let your health slip through the cracks like most providers do, she explores the issues you bring to her and offers her advice which goes outside the typical doctor's advice. She definitely treats the whole body and its balancing systems rather than just giving you a drug to treat a symptom like most doctors. I had been to 3 other PCP's before going to Dr. Wise and they don't even come close to the excellent healthcare treatment she has given to me. If you have to travel to see her- you will not be disappointed." (May 2008)

"I've had a new doctor for the last 2 months and would like to share his info. I had been extremely fatigued for more than a year. In April it got to the point where I had to structure my work day around my naps (luckily I have a very flexible schedule). I was sleeping over 4 hours in the day as well as 10 hrs or so at night. I made the rounds of doctors & thyroid testing and was told repeatedly I was in the "normal" range and should "Just exercise more". This advice, after having suspended my workout schedule of 10 years in order to nap. I was desperate when I called my uncle for the name of his "alternative" doctor. After a week of homeopathic meds and nutritional supplements I no longer needed a nap and have been productive every day since then, from 7am to 11pm without naps. I am alert and have felt great for 2 months now. The doctor is Stavely Yurkovsky, MD. in Nassau County, NY. His address is Madison St., Westbury, NY 11590. Phone is 516-333-2929. Fax is 334-5926. Dr. Yurkovsky is a board certified internist and has a specialty in cardiology. He practices preventively and non-invasively, and has been trained throughout Europe in various alternative treatments. "My 15 year old daughter was going to various doctors for over 6 years and some were considered to be the best endocrinologists and physicians in metro New York City but nothing they tried ever helped her. She was told she had hypothyroid and insulin resistance and was diagnosed last year with Hashimoto's disease. Ever since she was nine she suffered from terrible weekly migraines, severe hair loss, irritability, depression, stubborn weight gain as she was 80 lbs overweight, and always had extreme fatigue. For years we tried medical doctors, naturopaths, acupuncturists, nutritionists, metabolic type diets, etc. and nothing ever worked. We were left hopeless and told by her medical doctors that she would have to live with it for the rest of her life and they just put her on a high dose of synthroid that did not do anything. Thank God we found Dr. John Foley of the Nutritional Healing Center in Northern Westchester. I heard from my girlfriend that people go see him from all over for the special work he does to find the underlying cause of various health problems, especially thyroid issues. Dr. Foley found what nobody else could find. He does a lot of interesting tests and really looks at the environment as a major cause of health problems and found that my daughter suffered from Chlorine Toxicity that measured high in her thyroid gland and that was interfering with her ability to heal. He also found a viral situation as it related to her thyroid and he targeted special supplements to help her body remove the Chlorine and get her body systems healing again. In only one week, she lost 8 pounds, had no headaches for the first time in years, her energy and mood became so much better and her hair stopped falling out. Its now been 3 months and I finally have my daughter back! Her energy is great, she is more outgoing and no longer irritable, the depression is completely gone, her beautiful hair is growing in thicker and not falling out like it once did." (May 2008)

Another fan:
"I just came across your website here and I had a definite need to write about one of the best kept secrets in New York State as far as I'm concerned. His name is Dr. John Foley and he was actually able to get my body healing again for the first time in 22 years! I am a 51 year old female that lived with hypothyroidism and stubborn abdominal weight gain since I was 29 years old with absolutely no hope whatsoever from 14 other doctors including well known medical endocrinologists from the tri-state area. Please don't get me wrong. Every doctor I went to wanted to really help me and did their very best to get me well based on what they learned by using standard blood tests (which always showed that my thyroid was fine by the way). As much as they all tried, when I look back in the past those other doctors simply did not have the knowledge, expertise, and testing ability that Dr. Foley had. Dr. Foley is absolutely amazing and has real answers and solutions to those of us suffering from an undiagnosed low thyroid. As soon as he found that my thyroid gland was full of Chlorine and Fluoride toxicity I knew that I was finally in the right office as I had suspected this all along based on my own research. My healing did not happen immediately as it took around 10 and a half months to get all the Chlorine toxicity out of my thyroid gland which was probably a lifetime of exposure and thankfully I was very patient during the process and I'm so happy that I was. As soon as all the Chlorine left my body I immediately felt years younger and that I had control over my life and health again. It was as if my metabolism was reset or something as I started to lose the stubborn weight very quickly just like I was a teenager again! The iodine fulfillment therapy that he gave me kicked in nicely once my chlorine levels we lowered with certain liquid medical herbs. His brilliance and ability to help me gave me real hope that thyroid conditions can in fact be reversed naturally. As a nurse, this was a huge transformation for me that I never learned was even possible in my schooling. I would have to say that the best feeling of all is that everyone that I have ever referred to Dr. Foley for a suspected low thyroid is amazed at their own results and health achievements. It feels so good to help others that have gone through the same thing that I have for years. Thank you for such a great website and informing others like me!" (July 2008)
