Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?
Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
* The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
* The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
* The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
* Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
* Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.

Ada
Jason Hale, D.C., 429 E. 10th St, Ada 580.310.9755 www.halecliniconline.com haleclinic@hotmail.com
A reader writes:
"Dr. Hale has studied natural medicine over 35 years. He became a chiropractor because of his anti-aging interest. He is one of the most intelligent doctors I have ever consulted. Not one doctor in town has any idea of functional thyroid problems. If the blood test was normal they didnt have a clue. The basal temp test literally changed my life. Thank you Dr. Hale!" (March 2009)
Broken Arrow/Tulsa
A reader writes: "Dr. Michael Leu 401 E. A Street Jenks, Broken Arrow,
OK 74037 918-298-9300. He is the staff Naturopath for Cancer Treatment Center of Tulsa. I am a breast
cancer patient there (it's a wonderful place!) His toll free number is 888-611-0140. He is a great fan of
Armour for hypothyroid and he is the one who discovered my condition (I was clinically low when tested
- both low TSH and FrT4)." (Updated 11/02)
Broken Arrow
Dr. R. Jeff Wright, General Practice, 5050 East Kenosha, Broken Arrow,
OK 74014, 918- 355-9492. "I have greatly appreciated Dr. Wright's attentiveness and willingness to take
my symptoms seriously. He is willing to run tests that I request free T3 free T4, adrenal functioning etc.-
and appreciates the fact that I read about and research my condition even on the internet! I have already
recommended him to several others and would like to make an official recommendation on the Top Doc's
list."
Another reader writes:
"I live in Missouri and travel to Oklahoma to see Dr. Wright. It is worth every mile I travel. Dr. Wright
is the first doctor who really listened to me. He has tested all of my ovarian hormones, adrenals and tests
Free T3 and Free T4 along with TSH. He treats me as an individual and has been willing to try different
combinations of thyroid replacement therapy. I am currently taking Armour. If my recent tests show I
am low in Free T4 he is willing to do a trial period of adding Unithroid to the Armour. He is just
fantastic and is so knowledgeable. I highly recommend him to everybody."
Another reader recommends Dr. Wright:
"I found Dr. Wright, after 4 years of Graves Disease, and of feeling like a tired old woman with one foot
in the grave.. His office is called the Wright Health and Wellness Center. He is simply a very nice and
genuine man who listens to how I feel. He and his entire office are calm, and caring people. Not only
is he willing for me to partner in my health care, but he encourages it. He is supportive of the fact that
I am working to find the best vitamin and herbal support for optimum wellness also. He is knowledgeable
on so many levels, and is open to any and all testing until I feel better. He cannot believe that I have
never had a free T3 or T4 drawn, or adrenal testing. Dr. W is committed to help me get my life back..
I am soon to have weight loss surgery, and he is totally supportive in that area also. I have no doubts that
I am in skilled hands. I feel very fortunate to have found him." (Added 11/02)
Another fan:
A reader writes: "I found Dr. Wright through this website. After more than 5 years of seeing Dr.s over my suspicions of having Hypothyroidism, and my TSH levels being normal. Other Dr.'s wouldn't even consider doing a thyroid antibodies test but Dr. Wright did the full workup and he found my antibodies where very high. He treated me even though other Dr.'s wouldn't and it has been such a God send! I have finally found someone who would take me seriously and LISTEN to me and treat me even though my TSH levels were barely within the normal ranges. I highly recommend him to anyone that is in Oklahoma. He's a very caring and understanding man. I'm thankful for this site for helping me find such an excellent Dr. that is willing to treat me." (June 2006)
A reader writes:
"Dr. Wright listens and helped me with my thyroid. My previous doctor didn't even show she cared. Dr. Wright is kind and really took the time to help me. He had knowledge that really set him apart, I really appreciate him. It is quite a drive for me to see him but I don't care he is worth it!" (May 2008)
Another reader writes:
"I first used Dr. Wright many years ago and he was the first to really listen to me and prescribe bio-identical hormones. I wish I had never quit using him. Transportation was an issue at the time. I am so thankful I found him again. He did many tests that are needful that most doctors look at as unnecessary. He REALLY listens, takes his time and truly cares. When I have a question or a lab report comes in, he calls me personally, not a nurse or office worker. He prescribes Armor which was very important with me. When my adrenal test came back high, instead of prescribing a drug, he gave me a natural supplement that is really helping. He has been such a help to me. He is one in a million! I thank the Lord I found him again. I am finally beginning to feel like a real person again!" (May 2008)
Another fan:
"I do not have thyroid problems. However, I found Dr. Wright several years ago through this website. I left his office in tears because I finally found a Dr. who could help me. He got me started on the road to wellness. I don't see him anymore because I no longer need a Doctor. I am well. Thank you much for providing this website. It helped change my life." (July 2008)

Duncan
Dr. Greg Hyde, M.D. Ph.D., ENT, 1401 Duncan Regional Loop, P.O. Box
750303, Duncan, OK 73575 800-890-1340, mentsw@simplynet.net. "I went to see Dr. Hyde based on
another friend's recommendation. I had been on thyroid meds for about 7 years previous, but never felt
well, and was getting worse. Dr. Hyde treats many thyroid patients who have been to several other
doctors as well. He really bases his diagnosis and recommendations on symptoms much more than just
blood tests, and uses a holistic approach to health. He made diet recommendations, and put me on a
regimen of vitamins, and a more natural thyroid product, and 8 months later I have lost 20 pounds, and
feel like a whole different person!! I highly recommend Dr. Hyde to other patients in the area. We drive
over an hour to reach him, but it has definitely been worth it!" (added 1/04)
Edmond
Dr. Terrill Hulson, Family Practice, Westbrook Family Physicians, 1208
SW 15th, Edmond, OK 73013, 405-340-2100; appointments 405-340-8893. A reader writes: "Although
traditionally trained, Dr. Hulson knows his stuff on thyroid. At my initial appointment, he
agreed to test my thyroid (TSH) based on a family history of thyroid and the symptoms I was
experiencing. At my follow-up visit, 6 weeks later (not a year!), I had prepared a list of questions and
tests to request. Before I could even ask, *he* suggested the TPO, Free-T3, and Free-T4 tests! He told
me he wanted to see my TSH down to 1 or 2, and my symptoms gone. The only thing I had to ask about
was Armour - and while he doesn't usually prescribe it, he is open to trying it if I wish, and/or if the
Synthroid stops working for me. His office gets patients back quickly, and he doesn't seem rushed when
you talk with him. The nurses are friendly as well. They can take your blood in-house, and usually get
the test results back within a week." (Added 1/06)
Another reader writes:
Doctor Hulson is probably the best family physician I have ever had. He is very knowledgeable and very personable and I feel like I am working with him as a team. You never feel rushed when you are with him and he takes the time to explain everything. If you want to try something new or do something in a different way, he is very willing to work with you. I have battled my thyroid for over 25 years and have been on a combination of Synthroid and Armour Thyroid. My TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 levels tend to fluctuate a lot and he is very patient in working with me to find the right combination of therapies. I feel that he and his entire staff care very much and I feel very well taken care of. There isn't a finer physician in Edmond in my opinion." (May 2008)
Midwest City
Dr. Timothy Moser, Family Practice, 1212 S. Douglas Blvd., Midwest City,
OK 73130, Phone:
736-6811, A reader writes: "This man listens to your symptoms and doesn't like to let thyroid levels get
high. When my TSH went from 1.50 to 4.9, he immediately increased my dosage, being concerned that
my TSH was on the rise." (Added: Dec. 04) Norman
Dr. Howard E. Hagglund, General practice/internist/primary care, Holistic/complementary/alternative MD, Other, 1818 West Lindsey St D#140, Norman, 74137, (888) 297-4457, http://doctortalk.com, info@doctortalk.com
A reader writes: "My M.D. is wonderful! He is a family physician that
specializes in allergy treatment. He uses alternative medicine to complement his practice, including
acupuncture, chiropractic, chelation, nutrition and nutritional supplements. Dr. Hagglund treats by how
you feel, not just by the numbers and prefers "Westhroid" for hypothyroidism. He has a daily radio
program where he offers nutritional advice and often closes it by saying that he's "trying to talk himself
out of a job" by helping people to know how to improve their health."
Another reader likes Dr. Hagglund:
"He goes by more than lab values. He can tell by looking at you if you are having problems."
Another reader recommends Howard E. Hagglund:
"I actually travel out of state to see Dr. Hagglund. He is wonderful. His office staff is very caring and
always willing to answer any questions. My first appointment with Dr. Hagglund after being diagnosed
was over an hour just with him! He explained everything in detail and answered all of my questions. He
also helps you with losing the weight you have gained. I just wish I could hear his radio show." (Added
2/03)
Another fan:
"I recommend Dr Hagglund because of his approach and experience. I have had a remarkable recovery from issue related to thyroid and gland issues that others misdiagnosed or failed to find. He knows how to diagnose the issue and put you on a regiment that works! All of this using a natural approach whenever possible, and with explanations that you can understand."(August 2007)
Another reader writes:
"Dr. Hagglund has been wonderful. I was misdiagnosed with cancer and was set for surgery, when I went home and did a search on my symptoms and found doctor Hagglund's website. I brought with me a series of test that had been conducted, all showing inconclusive results, but yet another MD was going to do surgery for Cancer. I had spent the previous 2 years chasing down my symptoms from extreme weight gain of 75 lbs in 2 years to mood swings, hair falling out and just plain feeling awful! With one month of being treated by Dr. Hagglund I was feeling like my old self. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, treated with Westhroid, a natural form of thyroid help and put on a low carb, protein rich diet, with exercise. I have now lost 55 lbs and feel great! Dr. Hagglund and his staff are helpful, and always go out of their way for their patients. It is a shame that this type of treatment is not available by all medical physicians." (August 2007) Oklahoma City
Dr. G. M. Steelman, Bariatric Medicine, 13301 Meridian/Bldg. 400,
Oklahoma City, OK 73120, 405.755.4600, http://www.drsteelman.com. A reader writes: "Caring,
knowledgeable, and open-minded, Dr. Steelman listens to his patients and believes their input and
experience is as important in managing their hypothyroidism as are the results of their lab tests. Even
though we now live over 800 miles away, he continues to provide support and guidance to our efforts
to find effective therapies for my daughter's
condition, sending us literature (including the recommendation for your "Living Well with
Hypothyroidism") and consulting with our local physicians who, prior to his intervention, simply refused
to believe that Synthroid was not working for her since her lab work "looked so good". His calm,
considerate nature, combined with his commitment to helping a patient find the answer that "works" for
her/him, makes him a superb physician in this area . . . and his specialty in helping people safely and
effectively manage their thyroid problem." (Added 4/04)

Modhi Gude, MD, MRCP (UK), FACP, FACE, Endocrine, Diabetes, and
Thyroid, 1522 SW 44th Street
Oklahoma City, OK 73119, 405-681-1100 or Fax 405-681-1140,
Note: patients report that this doctor appears to be be seriously overscheduled. Patients report that it is idifficult to get appointments, to get followup, and lab results, and the doctor may not be able to remain current with each patient's condition and situation. (March 2009)
"Dr. Gude was very confident and
immediately did an ultrasound which no other doctor before him had thought of. The ultrasound showed
a nodule and inflammation of the thyroid which was a shock and I was very scared. Dr. Gude reassured
me we would do whatever it took to find out exactly what was going on. He started treating me with
Cytomel immediately and my TSH has gradually improved. He started out slowly and did not try to push
too much too quickly on me. He is very careful to be informed about all other medications you be taking.
He is a very kind man and listens to what you say. He takes things seriously and wants to know exactly
what is going on. His staff is friendly and takes your health very seriously." (Added 4/04)
A reader writes:
"Dr. Gude is very
thorough in his initial exam (over three years ago) and discovered nodules/abnormalities that had gone
unnoticed by other doctors. In fact, my primary-care manager had been assuring me for quite some time
that my thyroid was normal. Dr. Gude performed an ultrasound right away that disclosed several nodules
in both sides and a fluid filled cyst on the left side. After conducting some initial testing, he started me
on conservative therapy with synthroid. After several months treatment the desired response was not
achieved and I was referred to an "Experienced" head and neck surgeon for further treatment. As it
turned out there was a small (papillary) cancerous growth and a sub-total thyroidectomy was performed.
Dr. Gude has continued to treat me ( 3 years post) an he takes time to listen, is very thorough,
knowledgeable, and considerate. He doesn't brush aside questions and concerns, but takes time to explain
treatment options and expectations. I'm currently taking a combination of Synthroid and Compounded
Armour Thyroid with good results. Anyone (in the OKC area) looking for a doctor who will listen and
respond to concerns and questions, who explain things well, should consult with him. It's rare to find a
doctor who doesn't rush patients in and out so fast you wonder what happened. He's the BEST! "
(Added: Dec. 04)
"Dr. Gude is wonderful. Upon the recommendations here on this site, I went to see Dr. Gude in
Feb 06. I've been on this journey for 7 years and have bounced from
doctor to doctor. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in 2003 by a
different doctor who just told me to keep taking my thyroid and do
Atkins - I would lose weight. Tried it and every other diet. In my
journey, I was told take this but don't take that, then another told me
to take that but not this, and yet another said don't take this or that,
take something else. Half of the doctors I spoke with didn't even know
what Hashimoto's was. My last doctor before Dr. Gude told me to quit
taking my thyroid medicine all together! Dr Gude took the time to not
only run all the tests but to ask me how I was feeling each time I went
to see him - and he really listened. I am now doing really well on
Levothyroxine, Cytomel & DHEA. I highly recommend Dr. Gude - he has
been a God-send to me and my family; he was the only doctor who was able
to help my niece get her blood sugar down (type 1 diabetes)into a manageable range." (October 2006)
A reader writes:
"I found Dr. Gude on this site and went to him as I could get in. He has been great so far. He took 6 vials of blood. That was the first time in 5 years of being hypo that a doc took so much blood (which is a good thing). He gave me Armor and allows me to increase by symptoms and not just blood work. " (Added October 2007)
A reader writes:
"I had been taking a thyroid supplement for years. Although the levels reflected "normal" I still experienced symptoms. See the list provided on this site. My MD would do nothing more. Dr. Gude really listened to all the symptoms and charted my progress. It took about a year and adding Cytomel - I feel better than ever! I was Completely tired, had weight gain, hair loss, no sex drive, forgetfulness, and cold when everyone else felt fine. The difference is like stepping out on your porch after a rain and taking in that refreshing deep breath. Compared to continued exhaustion, that's a miracle feeling. Thank you Dr. Gude." (Added October 2007)
Another reader writes:
"I discovered Dr. Gude through this site and am so thankful for him. After years of being told by my GP that the small dosage of Synthroid she had me on kept me in the 'normal' range and that there was nothing else she could do I got fed up. I was in my mid-20s and felt like I was 80 - if that was her definition of normal something was wrong! I set out to find an endocrinologist, thinking that someone with more specialized knowledge would be better able to help me. I armed myself with all kinds of research regarding the change in what was considered normal TSH, info about additional and different medications, and studies around treating patients based on overall symptoms and condition, not just test results. The first endo I visited laughed at me and told me to stop 'reading junk on the internet'. He then asked if I was trying to get pregnant. When I said no he told me that Synthroid was all I needed - if I ever decided I wanted to have a baby to let him know and he'd start me on something else. I was humiliated and outraged! Thank the starts for this site - the wonderful feedback about Dr. Gude convinced me not to give up. I left my first visit with him feeling encouraged and hopeful for the first time in years. He immediately ran a full panel of blood work (be prepared for 6 vials) and scheduled me for an ultrasound. He started me on Cytomel after discovering nodules and monitored me closely for several months. My entire thyroid workup improved but he still wasn't happy with the lack of progress I showed in losing weight and improving my cholesterol, despite my dedication to Weight Watchers and exercise. He continued to dig for answers though - he refused to give up until I was 100%. What he found surprised me. He started me on medication to control my blood sugar that has helped me get my metabolism back on track. I've been able to successfully lose weight (through continued effort on my part) and actually feel human again. I love Dr. G!" (May 2008) Sand Springs
