Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?
Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
* The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
* The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
* The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
* Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
* Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.

Dr. Jeff Wright Naturopath 70 East Red Pine Drive Alpine, Utah
801-756-9444.
A reader writes: "This doctor is great. He spent an hour with me on
my first visit going over different issues. He prescribes natural thyroid.
He is also good at suggesting other supplements and vitamins. He is
very knowledgeable and has an open mind. He is kind and treats you with
respect. I highly recommend him." (Added 4/03)

Dennis Harper -- NO LONGER LISTED (retired) Layton
Marc Anderson, Allergies/Family Practitioner, 2121 N 1700 W., Layton,
UT 84041, (801) 773-4840. "He will go out of his way to meet with other
top docs in the thyroid disease field to learn more about the disease
and the medications out there to treat it. He actually listens to you
and lets you unload all your problems and anxieties and will do all
that he can to help you rather than tell you that you have to live with
conditions. He sincerely wants to help his patients. He will treat you
not only from your tests but also from your symptoms. He's fantastic."
Another patient Recommends Dr. Anderson:
"Dr. Anderson treats you like you are a knowledgeable person. He
actually listens to you and believes what you tell him. He values your
opinion and is VERY open to new ideas and treatments. He treats me from
my symptoms since my tests come back normal, but it's painfully obvious
that I suffer from thyroidism. He is very kind and caring and what doctors
should be! He's truly great!" (Added 11/02)
Yet another reader writes:
"Dr Anderson really took an interest in my case. Within one visit he had me back on track to wellness.
He was familiar with all of my symptoms and knew how to treat them. He listened to every word I said,
without trying to put words into my mouth. He did in one visit what took two other DR's months to do.
I am thankful everyday for what he has done for me." (Added 6/05)
Another fan:
"An excellent care-giver" (Added 1/06)

A reader writes:

"I'll try and be brief, but my journey is long. I started feeling lousy with practically every hypothyroid symptom a person can have (thyroid nodule, weight gain, mid morning fatigue , brittle nails, hair loss, major brain fog, severe carb cravings and edema around my eyes about the time of my period and on and on) around fifteen years ago. My husband was the director of two very busy ER's at the time so he sent me to his endocrinologist colleague for my thyroid. Well,I ended up having the benign lump taken out and I was told that I had half a thyroid left and it was functioning in range. As you can imagine, I now had a scar on my neck with no improvement of symptoms. My husband was up to his neck in work with a sick wife and three children at home. In the course of three years he ended up reading everything he could on the endocrine system from conventional medicine and naturopathic medicine. He went to every CME course he could on the subject. He started me on Armor Thyroid which made a world of difference and through the course of several years has switched me to a compounded combo of T4/T3. He is now a busy Age Management Doc and a diplomate of ABAARM and a NAMS certified menopause practitioner. He is great at taking patients with thyroid problems, often who have been poorly managed or ignored by conventional doctors, and fixing them. I feel great and if you will read the testimonials on his website you will see that many of his patients have "come alive" after finding him. I tried to be brief, but I could go on and on about this subject. Thanks for your book and website. I know that Dr. Navar tells all his thyroid patients to order your book and he refers to your site." (May 2008)

Utah now but still drive six hours to go to him! Salt Lake City

Utah 84094,801-576-8988. "Dr. Potter is very enthusiastic about getting
to the root of your problem and treating the patient according to symptoms
instead of just the blood test norms. He is thorough in his explanations
and spends as much time with you as you need. You always have an active
voice with him and he works with you as a team to obtain good health
and well-being." (Added 6/02).
Another reader writes:
"Dr. Potter treats the whole person - from my thyroid to every other part of my body. He will spend as
much time with you as needed. He will test anything that requires it and will fight with yuor insurance
compnay to get it tested. He is simply one of the BEST doctors I have ever had the pleasure to deal with.
He is currently trying to regulate my T3 properly. No other Dr has ever taken the time to do this. He
is simply wonderful!" (Added 6/05)
A reader writes:
"Found problems with my daughter and corrected a goiter
that others missed." (Added Apr 06)
Another reader writes:
"For years I have been looking for answers to my medical problems. Dr Potter is an excellent doctor; he treated my thyroid problem that other doctors said did not need treatment. The results have been great. Dr Potter is part doctor and part teacher. He educated me on thyroid problems and why he was chousing to treat mine when other doctors would not. Many years ago I stopped talking to doctors about my sleep problems because they did not believe me. Dr Potter is now working to find a solution to my persistent sleep problems, when other doctors would not. As Dr. Potter's patient be prepared to be treated with dignity and respect, something many other doctors lack. Dr Potter does not tell patients their problems are all in their head." (August 2007)
Another fan:
"Hands down one of the BEST thyroid doctors I have ever seen. He is patient and will test what needs to be tested. He listens to all aspects of your symptoms. He will also spend all the time needed to resolve an issue." (August 2007)
A reader writes:
"I am a registered nurse for 19 years. Recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I wanted to find out more of"why"... was it auto immune etc. what is going on with me? I made an appt. with Dr. Potter. He is very personable, and extremely knowledgeable regarding the thyroid. I would say more knowledgeable than the average doctor. His Mission statement or office philosophy is to treat all his residents like they were one of his own family members. I've never had a physician share something like that with me. He diagnosed that I have a goiter with nodules... (in the process now of getting an ultrasound). Dr. Potter is working on medication adjustment with me. My last physician did not"find" the goiter/nodules upon palpation. It took 2 months to get an appointment, Dr. Potter is busy, but all of his patients get top notch review of symptoms, examination and evaluation of everything. He was excellent. I did wait an hour to see him. If you make an appointment, and are in a hurry you will be frustrated. Take a book, make your appointment for first one of the day or your day off. Your wait will be well worth it. He ordered every blood test, whereas my prior physician only relied on Free T4 and TSH. Dr. Potter knows the thyroid, and I am thankful and grateful I found out about him. He is the physician to have if you have thyroid concerns. Dr. Potter was also very knowledgeable about sleep studies as well. Very broad knowledge base and excellent practitioner. I would recommend him highly." (October 2008)

on the alternative side of medicine. Is very attentive and listens to
the person; treats your thyroid condition nutritionally as well as with
thyroid meds. I was misdiagnosed for 3 years and was about to give up
and then I found Dr. Harper. Although I am not yet 100%, I have been
able to lose 20 pounds and am feeling better than I have in almost 4
years!" West Valley/Salt Lake City
